10 Tips: Loading a Truck on Moving Day
Tip #1
• When choosing a truck size if possible get a larger truck instead of a smaller one, this makes the whole process of loading and moving easy.
Tip #2
• Rent moving dollies and equipment to help you with the loading of the truck.
Tip #3
• Weight distribution is very important when packing a truck for transportation or a storage container. The truck driver must be satisfied with the weight distribution of load.
Tip #4
• You will need to estimate the weight of your load before loading the truck or storage container so not to exceed the maximum cargo weight for the unit.
Tip #5
• Load truck or container side wall to side wall packing 4 feet to 6 feet of floor to ceiling space, be sure to leave air space between items and truck ceiling.
Tip #6
• When loading a truck make sure to pack tight, filling every empty space from floor to ceiling, leave air space between items and truck ceiling.
Tip #7
• Heavy items like bureaus, large cabinets, sofas, washing machines, refrigerators must always be placed against the walls of the truck for good weight distribution. These items are ideal for your base, allowing you to pack smaller and fragile items on top.
Tip #8
• Divide the loaded goods into sections of 4 feet to 6 feet and tie each section to the tie-down rings with a rope or ratchet straps, specially if you are loading a storage container this will prevent load shifting.
Tip #9
• Large, flat items like mirrors, table tops and mattresses must always be placed upright against the walls and tied carefully. If this is not possible you may put mirrors between your mattresses and place your mattress at the end of your section before you tie the section.
Tip #10
• Check whether the unit is well packed and secured, tie end of load with rope or ratchet straps.
Note: Moving heavy items can be a very daunting task, make sure to consult with your family physician before undertaking such a project. Whenever in doubt, you can always call upon a local Toronto moving company. Please be safe and have fun.
